Townsville District Rugby League Communtiy
Story
The Townsville District Rugby League community, the Blackhawks and the Cowboys are putting their best foot forward for the McGrath Foundation’s Pull On Your Socks fundraiser to raise money for families experiencing breast cancer.
The inaugural Pull On Your Socks round will be held on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of June 2017, and involve players of all ages. All participating clubs will proudly wear their McGrath Foundation socks.
The weekend’s events:
Friday 2nd June, 5pm
All junior games will commence at Kern Brothers Drive, home of the Townsville Junior Rugby League
Saturday 3rd June
All senior games at Kern Brothers Drive
7pm kick off NQ Cowboys Vs Gold Coast Titans at 1300 Smiles
Sunday 4th June, 1pm
Women In League Ladies Day, Brothers Leagues Club
3pm kick off Blackhawk Vs Redcliffe Dolphins at Brothers League Club
The group came together when Nikolas Mitchell, a 13 year old student at Townsville Grammar School, was moved by his best friend’s family’s experience with breast cancer. Nik encouraged his mum to get involved in supporting the McGrath Foundation to show support for his best friend.
From there, what started as a small event continued to grow – soon not only was Nik’s club onboard, but also the Blackhawks, and the Cowboys who were willing to throw their support behind the campaign.
As they say at the McGrath Foundation, together we can make a difference!
